We’ve come a long way since 1948, and to understand where we are today, it’s important to understand where we came from.

Our Story

We began as a small business in Lethbridge, Alberta in 1948. The company was started by two ambitious lumbermen, Ray Davidson and Bill Enman. The humble beginnings featured 1 truck, 4 employees, and a small, narrow office. The team worked incredibly hard, building trust with their client base and offering a product and quality of service that far exceed what was available in the market.

By 1951, an expansion to Calgary presented itself as an obvious and exciting growth path. They obtained land on Macleod Trail. Business continued to steadily pickup and in 1959 the head office was built on Calgary 42nd Avenue where it still stands today. In 1960 the Lethbridge yard was sold and DE Lumber was able to shift its entire focus to serving the people of Calgary.

Bill Enman sold his share of the company to is partner Ray in 1963. At this time, Eldon Loucks was brought in as the General Manager. The company was operated for many years under this leadership and Ray’s sons, Doug and Greg were gradually brought into the fold.

A young man named John Wojtowicz started in the yard in 1957 worked his way through almost every job in the Company becoming the Office and Credit Manager. He retired in 2013, and remains active in several service organizations.

Ray was delighted to pass over leadership to his two sons when he and Eldon retired in the early 90s. This marked a long period of growth and expansion. Having worked alongside their father and grown up with the family business, Doug and Greg effortlessly maintained the company philosophy while driving growth and always keeping customer satisfaction at the forefront of every endeavour. This is when the long-standing trend of community involvement and philanthropy began.

In mid-2018 Greg Davidson retired, but maintains his philanthropic endeavours in the Calgary Construction industry.

In March 1996 Rob Pillipow joined the team in Commercial Sales eventually taking on the responsibility of Operations then becoming and remains General Manager.

Over the years, Davidson Enman Lumber has encountered and conquered countless unique challenges. For example, the company was tasked with suppling wood products to heritage park for the restoration of several historical buildings. Naturally, construction practices had changed substantially from the time that the buildings were erected, so DE had to get creative and source antique mouldings, doors, and expert craftsmen would could deliver the product with care and authenticity. Of course, DE rose to the challenge and helped shape yet another piece of Calgary’s history.
